“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.” - Alan D. Wolfelt
The need for a meal delivery service was highlighted to us after a personal and difficult experience. Our parents were aging in place, and we watched as their ability to handle basic needs diminished. We were incredibly busy caring for them, and it seemed like there was never enough time in the day to prepare nourishing food. We leaned heavily on frozen dinners and quick, basic food.
Without good fuel, we were all quickly running on fumes. As former caterers and lifelong foodies, we shifted our focus and started to invest the time to prepare healthy meals. We cooked for our parents as well, arranging complete, healthy dinners in microwavable containers so that they were ready to heat and eat. We monitored what they were eating and replenished by delivering fresh meals throughout the week. The efforts paid off—their health and mental clarity improved, and so did everyone’s overall happiness and energy levels.
Our parent’s neighbors were also aging in place and in dire need of healthy nourishment, so we found ourselves expanding the initiative to include them. Things continued to grow from there. We realized that we were bringing so much more than food in these critical moments—we were bringing comfort and love. We made and delivered homemade soups and stews to sick friends, and took warm meals to those who were grieving. Not only did people rave about the deliciousness; they told us time and time again that it took a huge weight off their shoulders and allowed them to stop worrying about what they were going to eat and start focusing on their own comfort and recovery.
After our parents passed, a lightbulb went off for us. We felt a deep need to keep helping. That was when Eat Well, Be Well was born.
“I realized very early the power of food to evoke memory, to bring people together, to transport you to other places…” - Chef José Andrés
We provide smiles, nostalgia, comfort and fresh, healthy meals to those who don’t have the time or ability to do it for themselves. Because no one can pour from an empty cup.
We serve people who are too busy to cook, looking for local sourced healthy meals, recovering from illness or surgery, aging in place,
grieving, in need of support, caretaking, busy with school, work, or life, or those who have specific medical or dietary needs that make obtaining the right kinds of food challenging. We have proudly grown to serve Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia.
To provide the most nutritious and delicious meals, we shop locally whenever possible to support small, community farms and offer truly fresh produce.
We’d love to send a meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner), to anyone deserving—a favorite teacher, a hard-working healthcare employee, or a loved one who has a busy week. We also often partner with:
